Haryana procures 10,000 tonnes mustard on first-day

Chandigarh: Additional chief secretary, Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Sanjeev Kaushal, said that about ten thousand metric tons of Mustard was procured from about 4,500 farmers on the first day today by calling 25 farmers each in the morning and afternoon at all centres.

In view of this, the state government has decided that from April 16, 2020, 50 farmers at a time will be called at all centres in the morning and afternoon. Apart from this, Mr Kaushal reassured the farmers that they would not face any difficulty in the mandis and each and every grain of their produce will be procured.

He said that all the farmers were aware that the Haryana government had started Mustard procurement in about 163 procurement centres from today i.e. April 15, 2020. While keeping in view the threat of COVID-19 and to facilitate the farmers, arthiyas and labourers, the State Government had increased the number of mandis and had made arrangements for masks, sanitizers including cleanliness and all the basic facilities to keep them safe during the sale of their produce in this time of crisis.

He further said that 50 farmers each will be called in the morning and evening at each procurement centre to sell mustard so that there is no overcrowding and those present can follow the directions given for prevention of corona by maintaining social distancing.

Kaushal said that on the first day, 25 farmers in the morning and 25 farmers in the evening were called to the Mustard procurement centres. He wholeheartedly thanked the farmers for following social distancing norms while keeping COVID-19 in view and that the Haryana government was proud of all the grain providers. He said that the farmers who had donated a part of their produce to support the fight against this pandemic were worthy of all praise.
